The EMCOZ Executive Committee paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Labour and Social Welfare to introduce themselves, share their concerns and find out if they can be of any assistance to the Minister in meeting her 100 days’ targets.

The President, Mr Matthew Chimbghanda, the 1st Vice President, Dr Israel Murefu, the Chair of Labour, Mrs Mukwehwa, the Chair of Training, Mr Rufaro Pasipanodya, the Chair of Finance, Mr Farai Dube and the Executive Director Mr J.W. Mufukare attended.

The President congratulated the Minister on her Birthday and Appointment to what he described as the ENABLER Ministry in Government.
In an overview, he pointed out that the biggest issue investors had with Zimbabwe, according to both the World Economic Forum and the World Bank was policy inconsistency which, in his opinion, arose from lack of comprehensive consultation.

He pointed out that Social Dialogue in Zimbabwe had failed to produce a Social Contract since negotiations started in 2000 and opined that the Social Contract was the only sustainable way forward for Zimbabwe.

He listed EMCOZ’s priority for the New Dispensation as the establishment of an “Enabling Environment for Sustainable Enterprises“, EESE. This would be achieved by addressing the distortions in the economy, which have resulted in weak macro– economic fundamentals. He bemoaned why Zimbabwe had to have the most expensive Utilities, Land and Labour in SADC.
