Employment Numbers by Industry Sector
The number of employees has decreased from 2014 to 2015 in 9 sectors, and increased in 2 sectors (Electricity & water and Education) which only increased marginally by (200 and 1100 employees respectively).
The biggest decline in employees over the period was in the Distribution Restaurants and Hotels sector which declined by 12100 employees, other sectors that showed large decline in number of employees were; Health (7900) and Manufacturing (5700).
The following numbers exclude the agriculture sector and the figures also exclude small businesses in rural areas. As at December 2015 the number of persons employed per industry sector is listed in the table below:

|Definition of an employee
The data collection is based on the following definition of an employee:
“An employee is defined as a person who works for a public or private employer for more than 30 hours per week. Working owners of private liability companies are included within this definition”.
